What GoodRx does and does not do for Zepbound

GoodRx is a genuinely useful tool that mostly does not work here, and the reason is structural rather than a failure on their part.

The short version

GoodRx is excellent at what it was built for: finding the cheapest pharmacy for a generic drug, where a dozen manufacturers compete and prices vary wildly between the shop on the corner and the one across the road.

Zepbound is not that. It is a single-source brand-name drug, and the discount reflects it — reported reductions on brand GLP-1s run about 5–22% off retail. In practice that put Zepbound at roughly $1,060–$1,090 a month in mid-2026, which at some pharmacies was $5 to $50 below the price you would pay walking in with no coupon at all.

Why the discount is small, structurally

A GoodRx coupon is a negotiated rate with pharmacy benefit managers. That negotiation has room when a drug has many suppliers and the pharmacy has margin to give.

On a brand-name GLP-1 there is one manufacturer. Lilly sets the list price, sets the rebate structure, and runs its own savings card programme. A third-party discount cannot cut underneath that without the manufacturer agreeing to it, and there is no reason for them to agree — they already have a direct channel.

This is not GoodRx underperforming. It is what a discount aggregator can do against a single-source brand.

What you cannot do

When GoodRx is still the right tool

  • You have no insurance and do not qualify for the manufacturer card — then a 5–22% discount is better than nothing, and GoodRx's pharmacy price comparison is still the fastest way to see which local pharmacy is cheapest.
  • For everything else in your prescription list. Generics are where it earns its reputation.

What usually beats it

RouteRoughly
Manufacturer savings card, plan covers the drug~$25 a fill
Manufacturer savings card, plan does not cover~$499 a month
Manufacturer direct self-payWegovy pen $349/mo, pill from $149
GoodRx at retail~$1,060–$1,090/mo

The gap between the bottom row and the rest is the whole point. Retail pharmacy is the expensive way to buy these drugs, and a coupon on top of a retail price does not change that. The manufacturers' own channels exist precisely to route around it.

Before relying on any of this

GoodRx prices move by pharmacy, by postcode and by week, and the figures above are reported ranges from mid-2026, not a quote. Check the live price for your own pharmacy. Everything here is dated 24 September 2026.
